In designing a new house in Antigua Guatemala, it was necessary to keep certain proportions (like roof lines) in accordance to city colonial design guides… however this does not mean that a contemporary interior could not be achieved.
With a palette of simple and perhaps rough materials, a modern, open plan interior design was proposed. The design revolves around a lime tree pre existing on site. The whole loft opens up to this small green patio with a lime tree in its center.
Light floods the interior of the loft (a rarity in Antigua), both directly through large pane glass windows, but also indirectly through the use of white palo blanco wood and light colored materials.
